Bioinformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination

JNU New Delhi, on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, will conduct the BINC examination on February 26-27, 2011. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as self-trained.  R egistration is open from 13-12-2010 to 03-02-2011. After 5 years of conducting this examination by University of Pune, recently in 2010, JNU New Delhi has been identified as a nodal agency by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to coordinate this examination along with six centres namely, Pune University, Pune; Anna University, Chennai; West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata; Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore; North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong and University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad. Bioinformatics education in India

An account of  bioinformatics  education in India is presented   along with future prospects. Establishment of BTIS network by   Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India in the   1980s had been a systematic effort in the development of  bioinformatics   infrastructure in India to provide services to scientific community.   Advances in the field of  bioinformatics  underpinned the need   for well-trained professionals with skills in information technology   and biotechnology. As a result, programmes for capacity building   in terms of human resource development were initiated. BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination

University of Pune (UoP), on behalf of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as self-trained. Eligibility Graduate in Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology are eligible to appear in the examination. They need not have any formal training, viz. certificate, diploma or degree in Bioinformatics. Students in final year of Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply. Application and syllabus The online application begins on 1 December 2008 and will continue until 16 January 2009.
